Watchman n Friends WF-081410-Sellout in the Valley of Decision ”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Intro:
LIFE and Faith, the Edict given
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There is a movie that came out some time ago called, “No Country for Old Men”. It is a scary, prolific murderous scheme of a movie that features some good players. It featured James Brolin’s Son, Josh as the wanderer Llewelyn Moss who while hunting stumbles upon a drug deal gone bad and winds up with the money. Then comes along a Spanish actor who won an Best Supporting Actor academy award for playing the role of Anton Chigurh ( who is Javier Bardem). This player in the tale is a murderous slow moving crazy who wants the money back and kills everyone he finds. He is unstoppable, unmoveable, and murderous practically everyone he see’s. Caught up in this is Tommy Lee Jones Character who is a sheriff by the name of Sheriff Ed Tom Bell. This character is an old, tired, and sick of the way things are going sheriff. He knows bad guys, has seen mulitiple drug deals gone bad and knows that Anton the murderer will kill the hapless Moss who found and took the loot.

The tale itself presents a dark, murderous, tale set against Arizona border drug deals and assassins who work for the high power brokers who provide the money to get even richer. It is a scene that is all too realistic. For the movie which was released in Nov 2007 has a dark and sinister reality to it. Today Arizona is on the forefront of the same violence, border drug deals, and illegal immigration as it was presented then.

As I watched this movie, the ad spots that the channel ran also gave a dark picture of America. It featured a ‘glorified Xbox game called “Mafia 3″ which glorified violence, murder, and the dark criminal underworld. This is what we teach our kids and even grown ups who play this stuff. Its called brainwashing 101.

Along with that was a reality ad for a show on another network that featured Gangs. The clips show violence, murder, sex, girls, money, drugs, alcohol, and young men and women caught up and dying. Again, it was a picture of many inner cities today! Caught up in the middle were people just trying to live!

In all the whole gave a grim, but real picture to America today!
It is the same reality that other nations have seen before:

We could cry out to God as Habakkuk did in his time.

He had been crying and calling out to God regarding this occurring and yet the Lord did not seem to hear, that is until one day!
1.Violence
2. Iniquity
3. Grievance
4. Spoiling
5. More Violence
6. Strife
7. Contention
8. Law is slacked
9. No true judgment and justice
10. The wicked compass the righteous
11. Wrong judgment occurs
12. He had been crying about this to the Lord for some time!

Habakkuk 1:1  ¶The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
2  O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!
3  Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.
4  Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

Then the Lord answered:
Habakkuk 1:5  ¶Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
6  For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.
7  They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.

This is the Lords cure, a more wicked nation than the one Habakkuk lived in was going to come in and take over!

When questioned, the Lord answered saying the “just shall live by faith”

Habakkuk 2:4  Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Thus the decree from the Lord during troubled and perilous times is simply “the just shall live by his faith!”

There are two things our God has given us. The first is life, all is found in him!

This Life we are first born into, physically; God gives us this Life. This life, both the wicked and the righteous are given to live this life.

Ecclesiastes 1:4  ¶One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
5  The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.

Ecclesiastes 12:13  ¶Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14  For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

The other is Life with faith and through that faith, we find life in Christ Jesus!

Father, gave his Son, and in his Son “all things consist”

Colossians 1:12  ¶Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
15  Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
18  And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
19  For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
20  And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
21  And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
22  In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
23  If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister

LIFE:
The Way of Understanding
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Speaking of Wisdom, Proverbs has much to say. She is represented as a “tree of life” to those who lay hold on her! Add to this happiness and the one who has found wisdom shall indeed be in the “way of understanding”.
Proverbs 3:18
She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.
There is now given an example of the LORD who by His wisdom founded the earth and established the heavens!
Proverbs 3:19
The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.
Proverbs 3:20
By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.
But we are told to let not wisdom and discretion depart from our eyes, that is, reminding ourselves, beholding the things God has made, understanding he is before all and our God. Let this be a reminder daily as we behold his wonderous works. By this we get wisdom and understanding. In this we also find discretion-that is, the freedom to decide what should be done in a particular situation, meaning it is better to avoid a dangerous situation than to confront it.
Here meaning, Pleasing God is better than confronting him. His blessings are better than experiencing his wrath for our disobedience. In all this is wisdom and understanding!.
It adds to us life for our souls and grace to our necks. Today through the ‘blood of Jesus Christ’ and his work on the cross, we have ‘life through him and thus Gods grace applied to us achieving his mercy and not wrath’. This also is wisdom and understanding.
Proverbs 3:21
¶My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
Proverbs 3:22
So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.
In the teachings of the bible, old and new, from the Torah to Revelation much is given to the “way we should walk.”. The old testament saints knew this. Today, however, many christians are sloppy in their walk and sometimes downright disobedient.
The wisdom of pleasing God comes in this, simply pleasing him. Doing as he commands us. If we do this, we can as Proverbs says:
-Walk safely and having our feet not stumble
-When we lie down, we will not be afraid
-When we sleep our sleep will be sweet
-We are told not to be afraid of sudden fear
-We are told not to be afraid of the desolation of the wicked when it comes [judgment]
-We are told the LORD will be our confidence
-The LORD will keep our foot from being taken
Proverbs 3:23
Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
Proverbs 3:24
When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
Proverbs 3:25
Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.
Proverbs 3:26
For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.
The above represents Sound wisdom, understanding, and discretion! Today as believers we must learn from this wisdom!
In Proverbs 9:1 we find the Call of wisdom. Here we find the story given in a metaphor terms:
Wisdom has built her house- Remember the LORD telling us, the wise man who built his house on a rock, why? He heard the Lords sayings and did them!
This house hewn out her seven pillars. Seven, God’s perfect number. Fullness, completion, power, authority. In Jesus miracles seven is used a lot, seven loaves, seven baskets, forgive seven times seventy etc. The church is seen as seven stars, a number of completion, perfection, and in the Lords hands. All things are in him! All things exist by him!
Proverbs 9:1
¶Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
Matthew 7:24  Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Revelation 1:13  And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
Revelation 1:16  And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
Revelation 1:20  The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.
Wisdom is seen as killing her beasts, mingling her wine, furnish her table. She sends forth her maidens, she cries on the highest places of the city. We see the fulfillment in this through our Lord who cried:
John 7:37  ¶In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
The trouble, many ignore the call, many are called, few chosen! Hearing they cannot hear, seeing they cannot see!
Proverbs 9:2
She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.
Proverbs 9:3
She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,
Proverbs 9:4
Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
Proverbs 9:5
Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
Proverbs 9:6
Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
The call is simple, forsake the foolish and live!
Go in the way of understanding!
Where is understanding in this? Why ignore the LORD God? Why not choose wisdom and understanding go in the way of understanding and live?
Yet many will not do this!
Simply put, the issue is when the LORD God sends judgment on the wicked for their rebellion, and it will come, you will see it arrive in ‘sudden fear’ and ‘desolation’.
The wisdom says, if you have received the call of wisdom and listened [Jesus is the fulfillment of this wisdom, in faith and obedience before God the Father], then
You are not to be afraid when this comes!
For the LORD[yahweh, personal covenant keeping name of God] is your confidence and faith
He shall keep your foot from being taken!
Proverbs 3:25  Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.
26  For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.
The Apostle says of this time, it is Perilous Times
2 Timothy 3:1  ¶This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
This is the time when God shakes all nations, therefore, in wisdom and understanding we know and understand God’s purpose and where our faith is to be.
He is our confidence! Why? Because we do as he has commanded. We have repented and follow his commandments. He will keep our foot from being taken in this judgment. Yet, there is a place to be reminded that scripture tells us also that it is a time when believers will lose their lives for the LORD!
Psalms 91:5  Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
1 Peter 3:14  But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
15  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
LIFE:
Do not Fret
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Psalms 37:1  ¶<> Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

Psalms 37:7  ¶Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Psalms 37:8  Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

Proverbs 24:19  ¶Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked;

Fret, hara, strongs: 2734
to be angry, be aroused, to burn with anger, to rage, to be jealous, to compete, to contend, grieved,

The basic stem of this word, is as:
Jonah burned with anger because repented of the evil to do to Nineveh because they repented!

Jonah 3:10  And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Jonah 4:1  ¶But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.
2  And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.

The causitive stem of this word, is as:
Baruch here was earnest in rebuilding the wall

Nehemiah 3:20  After him Baruch the son of Zabbai earnestly repaired the other piece, from the turning of the wall unto the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest.

-Therefore, we can burn with anger, rage, be jealous, or be grieved because of various things that come against us.

-For us in these perilous times, we can be that way because of the ‘prosperity of the wicked’ and the society we live in, because they do not repent.

-We can fret over the way of the LORD and wanting others to repent yet they do not!
-In all these things, we must not Fret!

A Good Psalm to study for this is Psalm 37, let us pick out some scriptures!

Don’t fret, worry, be angry, aroused, grieved, because of evil doers, nor be envious of those who work at iniquity and yet seem to get away with it, be prosperous, and seem to be blessed in their wicked ways!

Why? They will be cut down and wither, yet we are not to fret about it, all things are in the LORDS hands!

Psalms 37:1  ¶<> Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

2  For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

Instead you and I are to do this! We are not to fret, but to:

1. Trust in the LORD [Yahweh, personal covenant name of God]
2. Do good [no matter what]
Promise-we will dwell in the land and be fed!

3. Delight ourselves in the LORD
Promise-desires of our hearts
4. Commit our way to the LORD
5. Trust also in him
Promise he shall bring it to pass
what is that?
A. He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light
B. He shall bring forth thy judgment as the noonday
6. Rest in the LORD
7. Wait patiently for him, do not fret over those who prosper by wicked devices coming to pass
8. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath [this is fret] do not fret in any wise to do evil [this will bring trouble from the Lord upon you!]
9. Why wait on the LORD? Because the LORD shall cut off evil doers and those who wait upon the LORD shall inherit the earth.

3  Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4  Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5  Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6  And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
7  ¶Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
8  Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
9  For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
10  For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
11  But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

The Righteous: The Law of his God is in his heart verse 31!
Remember the wise man building his house upon the rock?

Blessings and provision amidst LIFE!
18  The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.
19  They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
21  ¶The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.
23  The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
24  Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
25  I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
26  He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.
27  Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.
28  For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
29  The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
30  The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.
31  The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.
32  The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.

LIFE:
Declaration of faith and purpose
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another good psalm to study for this is Psalm 73!
The Way of the Wicked in the World who seem to prosper and never see evil!
Psalms 73:1  ¶<> Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.
2  But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.
3  For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4  For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.
5  They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.
6  Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.
7  Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.
8  They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.
9  They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.
10  Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.
11  And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
12  Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.
The Righteous cleanse their heart, confess sin, walk in Gods ways, keep their hands from doing evil, yet they seem to be plagued and chastened by God every morning! Yet he cannot speak against it, less he should offend!
13  Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.
14  For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.
15  ¶If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.
It was so painful he could not think on this, then he went into a ‘sanctuary of God’, closet of prayer, solitude, seeking the LORD’, then he knew and understood their end.
16  When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;
17  Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.
He saw in spite of their earthly prosperity and wicked ways that seem to go unpunished, yet God put them in a slippery place!
18  Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.
19  How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.
20  As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.
21  ¶Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.
22  So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.
The Psalmist Declaration of faith and purpose before God!
Psalm 73: 25-28
1. WHOM have I in heaven but you LORD
2. There is none upon earth I desire beside thee
3. My flesh and heart fails
4. But yet God is the strength of my heart
5. God is my portion forever
6. It is good for me to draw near to God
7. I have put my trust in the Lord God that I may declare all his works
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
23  Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.
24  Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
25  Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
26  My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
27  For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
28  But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.

LIFE:
Vows to follow
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This Psalmist had seen Deliverance, verse 13 “For thou has delivered my soul from death” and thus he also said “wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling?”
Of course the LORD would do this, why would he do this? As the Psalmist says “That I may walk before God in the light of the living?”
God has called us to be his “light” and his “Salt”, we cannot be his “light” and His “salt” if we are dead! How can we testify to those around us if we are in the grave?
We cannot!
God wants you to be walking in his ways, serving him, and receiving his provision!
A dead witness cannot tell anything to anyone!
But a live witness for Christ Jesus who has seen him deliver him from death can be!
Psalms 56:1  ¶<> Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.
2  Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.
3  What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
4  In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
5  Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.
6  They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.
7  Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.
8  ¶Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?
9  When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.
10  In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word.
11  In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
12  Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.
13  For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vows to Follow!
Here are the vows this Psalmist talks about! We need to understand these and speak the Word of God aloud by faith believing this as well!
1. Verse 3- When I am afraid, I will trust in you
2. Verse 4,10- In God, and In the LORD [covenant name] I will praise his word
3. Verse 4,11- In God I have put my trust
4. Verse 4- I will not fear what flesh can do to me
5. Verse 12- O God, I will render praise unto thee
