Set Captives Free, Notes

Has your enemy have you trapped? Are you Ensnared by troubles and turmoil? Are there people who are plotting against you? Do you need Deliverance?

All this is covered by the ‘righteousness, mercy, and goodness’ of the LORD God in His provision for deliverance of the Captives, setting them free!

Many times, though, Christians are still captive, even though they have their sins covered through the blood of the covenant, they are ensnared, trapped, and face troubles! While there are many troubles that come against the righteous, the LORD delivers His people out of them. When the wicked ensnare or trouble the righteous, the LORD is their defense.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
=>James 5:16  Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
=>1 Peter 3:12  For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It is true, “A Sovereign Lord delivers those who trust and fear him”

The Cry: plea for deliverance, guidance, briefly describing the trouble
verses 1-4

The cry,

recognizes here the Sovereign LORD:
‘LORD’, yehwah, yahweh,
“yehwah (??????????????, 3068), “Lord.” The Tetragrammaton YHWH appears without its own vowels, and its exact pronunciation is debated (Jehovah, Yehovah, Jahweh, Yahweh). The Hebrew text does insert the vowels for ??adonay, and Jewish students and scholars read ??adonay whenever they see the Tetragrammaton. This use of the word occurs 6,828 times. The word appears in every period of biblical Hebrew. The divine name YHWH appears only in the Bible. Its precise meaning is much debated. God chose it as His personal name by which He related specifically to His chosen or covenant people”

The One making the petition to the LORD also declares, personal faith, trust, and a relationship for he knows the ‘name of the LORD’.

‘do I put my trust’, hasah,
“2620 ?????????? [chacah /khaw·saw/] v. A primitive root; TWOT 700; GK 2879; 37 occurrences; AV translates as “to trust” 35 times, “to make a refuge” once, and “have hope” once. 1 (Qal) to seek refuge, flee for protection. 1a to put trust in (God), confide or hope in (God) (fig.).”

‘deliver’, [save, bring into security, cause me to escape, to bring to safety]
“6403 ???????????? [palat /paw·lat/] v. A primitive root; TWOT 1774; GK 7117; 25 occurrences; AV translates as “deliver” 16 times, “deliverer” five times, “calveth” once, “escape” twice, and “safe” once. 1 to escape, save, deliver, slip away. 1a (Qal) to escape. 1b (Piel). 1b1 to bring into security, deliver. 1b2 to cause to escape, cast forth. 1b3 to be delivered. 1b4 to slip away. 1c (Hiphil) to bring into security, bring to safety. ”

‘me in thy righteousness’, [in thy justice, as you see the wicked oppressing your righteous servant, deliver me, justify me, save me, in your righteous judgment]
“6666 ?????????????? [tsâdaqah /tsed·aw·kaw/] n f. From 6663; TWOT 1879b; GK 7407; 157 occurrences; AV translates as “righteousness” 128 times, “justice” 15 times, “right” nine times, “righteous acts” three times, “moderately” once, and “righteously” once. 1 justice, righteousness. 1a righteousness (in government). 1a1 of judge, ruler, king. 1a2 of law. 1a3 of Davidic king Messiah. 1b righteousness (of God’s attribute). 1c righteousness (in a case or cause). 1d righteousness, truthfulness. 1e righteousness (as ethically right). 1f righteousness (as vindicated), justification, salvation. 1f1 of God. 1f2 prosperity (of people). 1g righteous acts”

Psalms 31:1
¶<> In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.

Psalms 31:2
Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.

‘for thy names’[God’s name is synonymous with his attributes of holiness, righteousness, mercy, grace, it is very important, not to defame his name, take it in vain]

“shem (???????, 8034), “name; reputation; memory; renown.””
To “give a name for one” is to make him famous: “And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land …” (2 Sam. 7:23).”

Psalms 31:3
For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.

Psalms 31:4
Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.

‘By my name JEHOVAH [YHWH, Yahweh, Jehovah]

yehwah (??????????????,
3068), “Lord.” The Tetragrammaton YHWH appears without its own vowels, and its exact pronunciation is debated (Jehovah, Yehovah, Jahweh, Yahweh).
God chose it as His personal name by which He related specifically to His chosen or covenant people

Exodus 6:3  And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them

Psalms 91:14  Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

Psalms 103:1  ¶<> Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

‘sake lead’[for His names sake lead, guide, bring, lead forth, me out of this]

“5148 ?????????? [nachah /naw·khaw/] v. A primitive root; TWOT 1341; GK 5697; 39 occurrences; AV translates as “lead” 24 times, “guide” six times, “bring” four times, “bestowed” once, “lead forth” once, “govern” once, “put” once, and “straiteneth” once. 1 to lead, guide. 1a (Qal) to lead, bring. 1b (Hiphil) to lead, guide”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~New Testament~~~~~~~
Today, through the ‘blood of the covenant’ we know JEHOVAH, YHWH, as ‘The Father’, whom sent the Son, Jesus Christ, Yeshua Ha Massiach, to be the Savior of the World and if we ask anything in his name of the Father, according to his will!
John 15, the unity chapter, states, ask of the Father in my name, Jesus name, Yeshua! The key here is unity, in the Son and the Father, disciples, doing as he says, following his commandments! Read context of this in Chapter 14-17 of John!
John 15:16  Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
Example of Hindrance to such prayer and petition!
James 4:3  Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
4  Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Declaring the Steps of the Past:
From past experience, recall the LORD’s deliverance of you! He has known you in adversities, he has delivered you before, and set you free, he will again, so you here are glad and rejoice in the Lords mercy who hears and answers your petition!
verses 7-8
Psalms 31:7
I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;
Psalms 31:8
And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.
The Current Situation:
Describe it in detail
verses 9-13
Eye consumed with grief that fills the soul and belly: thorough affliction, that fills the body, soul, mind, and causes intense human emotions and tears. Yet in this state, although the body and soul feels the affliction, deep inside the one who trusts, comes out to find and seek mercy from the one who is his LORD, the personal covenant name!
Psalms 31:9
¶Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.
Iniquity:
here the petitioner meets the ‘covenant with the LORD’ and deals with inquity and sin. For ‘iniquity’ is serious, and this is a God who forgives, but will not at all requite or excuse the wicked or sin, we must confess it and forsake it, here the petitioner does this. For when coming to God, sins of ommission or commission, on purpose or not, we come to God! This petitioner though, knows his LORD and his God, he petitioning the LORD and in this, he recognizes ‘iniquity and sin before a Holy God’!
“Serious as “iniquity” is in the covenantal relationship between the Lord and His people, the people are reminded that He is a living God who willingly forgives “iniquity”: “Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation” (Exod. 34:7). God expects confession of sin: “I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin” (Ps. 32:5), and a trusting, believing heart which expresses the humble prayer: “Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin” (Ps. 51:2). Isaiah 53 teaches that God put upon Jesus Christ our “iniquities” (v. 6), that He having been bruised for our “iniquities” (v. 5) might justify those who believe on Him: “He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities” (Isa. 53:11).”
Psalms 31:10
For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.
The situation face by this one was a cause to be a reproach [shame, rebuke, taunt, disgrace] among his enemies, and he said especially among his neighbors. He became a fear to his friends and acquaintances. People would avoid him, fleeing from his presence.
Psalms 31:11
I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.
His situation was so bad that people put his memory out of mind, a useless broken vessel. A situation and abuse so bad, people considered him of no value or use anymore!
Psalms 31:12
I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.
It is here that we see him facing slander, causing fear all around him, as many took counsel against him, wanting to take away his life!
Psalms 31:13
For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.
The Declaration: This is your statement of Faith in this crisis, that in everything you are and hope to be, it is in the hands of God, you trust in Him, You declare you Faith! Your deliverance is in the balance, and you trust this God to fully vindicate and deliver you!
Verse 14
Psalms 31:14
But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.
The Cry for Mercy:
This follows your faith declaration, for you trust, and now make your appeal to the LORD and his throne, that in his righteousness and mercy, he will deliver you for “thy mercies sake.” You Petition the Lord and remind him, you have called upon Him, ‘let me not be ashamed’, you are seeking him to answer based on his mercy and his justice to deliver the righteous out of the hands of the proud and those wicked who are contempt against them, .
Verse 15-16
Describe your troubles, then put in plain words what is your desire, if it is deliverance, then say so!
Mercy is seen here as:
1. Deliverance from his enemies
2. Deliverance from those that persecute him
3. Seeing Gods Face, metaphor ref his favor in seeing deliverance, saving him out Gods mercy
4. Not having his enemies and those around him seeing his fail or fall, he did not want to be ashamed, no one does. Deliver me oh God, I don’t want to be ashamed, I know you, you know me, vindicate me, deliver me, let me not be ashamed , for thy mercy sake, save me out of this!
5. Let the wicked be ashamed as they see you deliver me, for they know I called upon thee
6. Let lying lips be silenced [proud contempt grievous things against me]
Psalms 31:15
My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.
Psalms 31:16
Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies’ sake.
Psalms 31:17
Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.
Psalms 31:18
Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
The Deliverance:
Three metaphors illustrate the deliverance here, ‘secret place’, ‘pavilion’, and ‘strong city’. When deliverance comes, it is sweet, the LORD’S kindness is revealed in righteousness and mercy!
Verse 19-21
‘Secret of thy presence’
Secret here is covering, shelter, hiding place, of thy presence [face, in front of, before]! Here we dwell during trouble, even on earth, we are in his presence, in the presence of his angels, as we are obedient, faithful, and trusting, we will not only be in his presence but he will see that we are in the ‘secret of his presence’
Psalms 91:1  ¶He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
‘Secretly in a pavilion’
Secretly here, store up, lay up, hide, as treasure, in a pavilion [tabernacle, booth, thicket] The Lord is our Tabernacle, we keep Tabernacle the feast of, in the millenium we will keep the feast of Tabernacles which prophetically points to the reign of the ‘son of David’ on the throne, our LORD who will rule and reign from Zion, the Tabernacle, see Rev 21:3 & 22:3, God and the Lamb!
‘Kindness in a strong city’
Strong [siege-enclosure, siege, entrenchment, siege works. 1a siege. 1b enclosure, siege-works, rampart.] City [javascript:void(0)a city (a place guarded by waking or a watch) in the widest sense (even of a mere encampment or post).] Proverbs 10:15 says that  ¶The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, but for us, Our God is our Strong city and shelter, which is kept by a strong siege mount, gaurded by his Warrior Angels, and the power and presence of the Almighty El Shaddai!
Isaiah 26:1  ¶In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwark
Psalms 31:19
¶Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!
Psalms 31:20
Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.
Psalms 31:21
Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.
The Caveat:
In our Weakness and trouble we may say things that are not of faith or as we should as children of the LORD, yet, if we repent of those things we say, the LORD will hear our petition if we continue to come before him!
Verse: 22
I said in my haste [to hurry, flee, hasten, fear, be terrified]. I am cut off [destroyed]javascript:void(0)
thou heardest the voice of my supplications [ supplication, supplication for favour. 1a to man. 1b to God.]
Of my Supplications, H8469, is fromjavascript:void(0): 2603, to be gracious, show favor, be gracious;
“2603 [chanan /khaw·nan/] v. A primitive root [compare 2583]; TWOT 694, 695; GK 2858 and 2859; 78 occurrences; AV translates as “mercy” 16 times, “gracious” 13 times, “merciful” 12 times, “supplication” 10 times, “favour” seven times, “besought” four times, “pity” four times, “fair” once, “favourable” once, “favoured” once, and translated miscellaneously nine times. 1 to be gracious, show favour, pity. 1a (Qal) to show favour, be gracious. 1b (Niphal) to be pitied. 1c (Piel) to make gracious, make favourable, be gracious. 1d (Poel) to direct favour to, have mercy on. 1e (Hophal) to be shown favour, be shown consideration. 1f (Hithpael) to seek favour, implore favour. 2 to be loathsome. “
“He is seeking the LORD with these ‘supplications’ or requests for the LORD to show his favor, be gracious, and have pity, upon his servant!
Psalms 31:22
For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.
*****************New Testament, Favor*************************
“charis (??????????, 5485), “grace,” indicating favor on the part of the giver, “thanks” on the part of the receiver, is rendered “acceptable” in 1 Pet. 2:19-20″
Charis, is from 5463 ‘to rejoice exceedingly’;
When we have Gods grace, we should ‘rejoice exceedingly’ because of His Favor which has been shown to us through His, God the Father sending his [‘blood of the covenant’] Son, Jesus Christ to be the savior of the World!
It is that favor that enables us, the divine favor of the True living God that brings us into his presence!
Hebrews 4:14  Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need
The Lesson of knowing the LORD in deliverance and crisis! This is for all of the Saints of the LORD, it is a fact, the LORD preserves the faithful and will reward all for the things they do! Our job is to remain faithful, and in these crisis and troubles, need to be ‘of good courage’ for when the LORD see’s us with courage and faith, he ‘will strengthen our heart’ so that we will make it through to victory, but it is only as we can truly Hope in the LORD [Yahweh, personal name of God, covenant name]
‘Be of Good courage’, physical and moral strength,
chazaq , “to be strong, strengthen, harden, take hold of”
” “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show himself strong in the behalf of them [nasb, “to strongly support them”] whose heart is perfect toward him” (2 Chron. 16:9).”
Today, we keep Gods Word, that we have been given, it is holding to the Word, his promises, keeping his commandments, be obedient that we are strong, coupled with his Spirit, and prayer, with fasting! We can be strong, both morally and physically, to do and be delivered from enemies!
“Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land.…” Moses was commanded to “charge Joshua, and encourage him” (Deut. 3:28). The covenant promise accompanies the injunction to “be strong and of a good courage”: “… For the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee” (Deut. 31:6).
He shall strengthen [to be strong, alert, courageous, brave, stout, bold, solid, hard.
Your heart [ inner man, mind, will, heart, soul, understanding. 1a inner part, midst. 1a1 midst (of things). 1a2 heart (of man). 1a3 soul, heart (of man). 1a4 mind, knowledge, thinking, reflection, memory. 1a5 inclination, resolution, determination (of will). 1a6 conscience. 1a7 heart (of moral character). 1a8 as seat of appetites. 1a9 as seat of emotions and passions. 1a10 as seat of courage]
All ye that Hope [wait, hope, expect] in the LORD [covenant, YHWH, we believe that God will do as he says, for he is not man that he should lie!]
Verse 23-24
Psalms 31:23
O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.
Psalms 31:24
Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.
Don’t be prepared to die, prepare yourself for deliverance!
Don’t be prepared to fail, prepare to see the Salvation of the LORD!
Don’t be prepared to quit, prepare to walk in courage, with faith!
We know that in these times we may face persecution, turmoil, and death through martyrdom, we need to consciously prepare ourselves for Deliverance!
The ‘blood of the covenant’ is Gods mercy cover for your sins!
Hebrews 10:29  Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Hebrews 12:24  And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
Hebrews 13:20  Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
Revelation 12:11  And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
The Faith and testimony of Jesus Christ is your command to follow and overcome!
Revelation 12:17  And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Revelation 14:12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
The Commandments of God is your walking obedience before the Lord!
1 John 5:2  By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3  For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5  Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God
