“The Real Context of Faith part 2″

Chapter 12 Hebrew Context of Faith: Part 2

The Final Prime Example of Jesus Christ

This is the Work of God, Faith. Chapter ten, we saw the work of God to bring us into his purpose, the ‘blood of covenant’ relationship with Him.

Chapter 11 revealed to examples of former saints who overcame, had a good testimony of faith and were victorious. The victory is paramount in the fact they made it through, did not quit, and now wait for us, in these last days before the Kingdom is to be delivered to be made perfect, and be in that final phase of God’s plan, Mount Zion, the heavenly Jerusalem, here on Earth.

Chapter 12, takes these examples in mind and puts forth another example that of Christ, along with staunch warnings and puts forth the practical aspects of our life and its requirements and the faith needed to overcome as those whose lives were displayed in Chapter 11.

As those who were mentioned in Chapter 11 had a great cloud of witnesses, of which we just pertain too, so indeed we are as well surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. For our testimony as with those in Chapter 11, must be well spoken and accepted of by God, it will be, if we keep our hope unto the end, in faith believing in Him who has called us and in him who will take care of us, this being the ‘rewarder of those who diligently seek HIM’.

-Here let it be noted that the Author gives us a lasting example to follow. A final course in the faith hall of fame, so to speak.

-The Messiah, Jesus Christ-in spite of all this, he endured it all, by faith knowing that his Father would bring him back from the grave, and he would be at the right hand of God, having keys of death and hell, he overcame for all who would believe in Him!

-Endured the cross
*physical limitations, physical death
*suffered, bled, beaten, crucified, resurrected
-Despised the shame
*shame for he became sin for us
*shame for God the Father turned his face from sin, his son became sin for us
*shame from those around who railed against him, spit on him, he was far from the glory he knew in Heaven

-All his followers left
-Religious establishment hated and despised him
-Wicked unbelievers went along
-He hung with thieves, they deserved it, he did not

The example is given to help us to realize to put off all weights, sins, and then run the race before us, with faith and patience!

It is easy to tire, to want to give up, to become exhausted with the fight, yet this example is here to motivate us of our example Jesus Christ, the faithfulness of the Father, and the reward set before us when we finish the race.

In the end, we as those the writer wrote to, ‘Have not resisted unto blood, striving against sin’. In other words, not one of them lost their lives for standing up for the LORD God, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Gospel of God and against sin that is in the world!

Heb 12:1
¶Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Heb 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Heb 12:3
For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

Heb 12:4
¶Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

The Chastening of the LORD!

The Chapter has an important part on Chastening [reproof, from latin to castigate-i.e. reprimand severely]:
-Chastening:

*When the LORD receives you as a son or daughter, he loves you, but with this comes chastening [reprimand severely] and scourging [suffering, punishment, metaphor-good whipping as a Father to a Son].

*This is how God deals with his Sons, but you must endure it

*If you don’t, then you will be a bastard, not a son of God, note all who are the Sons or daughters of God partake in this, God is no respecter of persons here. This is how he corrects, guides, and brings you into the path you need to go!

*Therefore, as Physical Fathers in the flesh correct, so we must subject ourselves to the ‘Father of Spirits’, by doing so we will live! That is, Live in him, be in Him, and be with Him in Heaven, if we faint not!

*This chastening and scourging is the way our Father brings us into Holiness

*Make no mistake this is not joyous

*This yields in our live, a Holiness, it is explain here as the ‘peaceable fruit of righteousness’ which is the result of the LORD God chastising us in this manner! It is here you learn to walk in: love, joy, peace, gentleness, goodness, meekness, faith, longsuffering, meekness!
-Gal 5:22-23;
-2 Pet 1: 5-8

-James 1:3  Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

Heb 12:5
And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

Heb 12:6
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Heb 12:7
If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

Heb 12:8
But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

Heb 12:9
Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

Heb 12:10
For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

Heb 12:11
Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Walk the Straight Path of Faith, in Holiness and Peace!

The Straight Path!

*This Brings you to the section where after the chastisement, agony at being spanked by God, the realization that there is a power now that will speak against your ways and bring you into alignment with his will, that you are told flatly,

*Hey, wake up, lift up your hands that hand down, strengthen the feeble knees
*Its going to be okay, the LORD God does this with all his children. Now this spanking comes in many varied ways: trouble, tribulation, sickness, financial, and many other ways.

*Many times we blame the devil for many things, when it is not him. It is our actions before The LORD God.

*We forget he chastises, we forget we need to order our conversation aright, that is how we walk in Him, he is watching!

*We must allow ourselves to be healed, here we are told how!

*God sometimes uses men, women, and many other kinds of tools to bring us this chastisement. However we are not to get mad at the device, method, or person who seems to be the instrument! Ex: Babylon was Gods tool to punish Israel for their rebellion. Yet it wasn’t Babylon’s fault, it was Israel’s. But this fact of Babylon was true, in their pride they ended up seeing God’s judgment on them as well.
-Follow peace with all men
-Follow Holiness without which you will not see the LORD
-Look diligently, i.e. make sure you have no root of bitterness spring up
-Roots of bitterness will grow, and it has defiled many, separating them from the LORD.
-Look diligently so that you are not a profane one, or a fornicator as Esau who stands as a staunch Example of one who forsook ‘permanent spiritual blessings’ for ‘fleshly gratification’. When the believer does this, the consequences are dire and they must live with these.

Heb 12:12
Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

Heb 12:13
And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

Heb 12:14
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Heb 12:15
Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

Heb 12:16
Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

Heb 12:17
For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

Remember From Whence you have Come-The Former Covenant!

*It’s a place now to realize from whence we have come
*It’s not like in the former days
*The mount, people could not touch it nor their animals, this meant death
*The mount burned with fire
*The overpowering nature of the LORD God on the mount, fire, blackness, darkness, and tempest along with the booming voice of a thundering of many waters speaking to them made the Children of Israel ask that God not speak to them anymore. They would go through Moses!
*This was the fierceness and power of Almighty God, a God that Israel had not yet come to know! They had seen his mighty display of power, but did not come to know, trust, and love Him.

Heb 12:18
¶For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

Heb 12:19
And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:

Heb 12:20
(For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:

Heb 12:21
And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)

Remember Where you have Come-The ‘Blood of the Covenant’!

*The Believer today, through the “blood fo the covenant” is brought nigh through Jesus Christ, the mediator between God and Man, through the sprinkling of his blood and a more perfect, permanent sacrifice forever
*It is through this that we must see what we have come to, our Hope, our Promise, our future attainment through Faith, by Gods Grace:
-Come to Mount Sion
-Come to the City of the Living God
-Come to the heavenly Jerusalem
-Come to an innumerable company of Angels
-Come to God the Judge of all
-Come to place where the spirits of just men are made perfect

-You are now the General Assembly
-You are now the church of the firstborn
-You are now written in heaven
-All of this possible by the ‘blood of the covenant’, through the ‘blood of sprinkling’, through Jesus Christ the mediator of this new covenant!

Heb 12:22
But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

Heb 12:23
To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

Heb 12:24
And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

Remember What is Approaching and is Here now!-The Shaking of all Nations!
*It is here that a final warning is issued, after all is said in this whole book, especially the illustrated examples of those who overcame and had a good testimony before God, we find a staunch warning:

If Israel did not escape who lived before us, if they refused this God who spoke to them from mount Sion, how will we escape if we neglect and ignore the fuller revelation of God in Christ Jesus, the ‘blood of the covenant’? Answer, we cannot!

Heb 12:25
See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

*We must understand the times we live in. These are the days, before the full revelation and appearance of the Kingdom of God on Earth.
*This is the time that God is ‘shaking the earth and the heavens”
*He is shaking all things that those things which cannot be shaken will remain
*The only thing that will remain is this, the Kingdom of God which cannot be moved!

*This is the final warning here, since we are to receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken, wherein dwells righteousness, then we must have Gods grace and favor. By his Grace alone will we make it!

* We will obtain this Grace, or Favor by serving God acceptably with reverence and godly fear!

*For our God is a consuming fire, he will judge all things!

Heb 12:26
Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.

Heb 12:27
And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Heb 12:28
Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

Heb 12:29
For our God is a consuming fire.

Then let us sum up:

Basis of Faith:

the basis, foundation, pedestal of our Faith [trust, confidence] is the LORD God

Meaning of Faith:

“To believe He is and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek HIM”

Purpose of Faith:

The reason of our Faith[trust, confidence] in God, the determination or objective, is to seek Him, believing that he actually exists and as we do seek him diligently [careful, conscientiously, and taking delight in doing so] we find out he is a rewarder to those who do this! We therefore have purpose to know this God and to receive of his hand his gift to us.
