“The Real Context of Faith part I”

‘The Real Meaning of and Real Purpose of Faith’

It is what this is about, belief!
Belief in an unknown god was not there, then wham, we believed!
Through no power of our own, wham, we believed!
Why?
Something happened!
Why?
A power occurred!
Why?
We changed!
Why?
We came to know this God and started walking by Faith!

Belief in something we cannot or could not see, that is, until we saw him by faith then everything changed in our world!

The atheist sees us and asks where is your God, I see nothing! He doesn’t have faith as we do!
The American in his wealth, pride, lifestyle, sees us and says, there is a force, something that holds it together, but God if there is one, helps those who helps himself!
The goyim, the gentile who has no relation to this God, sees one who is foolish, such wisdom is foolishness to believe in something you cannot see and then dare to live and then possibly die for such a belief. This is foolishness to them.

The truth is this God defends the poor, is attentive to the downtrodden, and is laborious in revealing himself and bringing those who need help, to himself; teaching them to believe in someone they cannot see, trust in something they cannot touch, and walk in a belief that may lead them to death for the namesake of whom they believe in and cannot see!

The jews had experienced 400 years of what we call, between the covenants. From Malachi to the first word in Matthew.

They knew religious fervor, they knew of a God, they had hope in a Messiah. This Messiah would bring in a new era of deliverance for the Jews and Israel. Once again he would bring in and restore the twelve tribes.

They had seen the glory years, but now the generation to welcome the Messiah Y’SHUA was one that only read in their own histories the glories of David and Solomon. They read of Elijah, Enoch, and of Father Abraham. They also had become entwined in religious covenantal law that made it impossible for many of them to follow the law of God. The religious experts, the priest, Sanhedren had developed laws of their own, called traditions of men that made the real law of God of none effect.

The Jews had seen the northern tribes scattered, the 10 most northern, called Israel or Ephraim. God had said he would scatter them to the nations for their idolatry and he did. Now after the invasion into Israel of strong Gentile nations like Persia and Babylon, they had been overrun, captured, made slaves. It was now the time of the Roman Empire, they had allowed the tiny slot of Judah to be run by the Jews own power structure in oversight by the Roman Governor. The strong arm of Roman law was everywhere. Roman roads connected the world, and the power to contend with was Rome.

It was into this that the Messiah who would fulfill the hopes and dreams of mothers, Jewish heritages, lines of hope through the ages. All these women hoped as Mothers of Israel to birth the King that they knew would come. He would be the Messiach, the Hope of the Restoration of Israel, the Son of God!

It came through a woman called Mary and her husband Joseph who did not physically father this child but was a father in the flesh to the young Messiah.

This was the promise of Israel, the hope of Jews everywhere! This would be the offering of God, the Lamb of God, the one slain before the foundation of the world!

This is the PROMISE to come! Although they still did not understand his full duty, he would pick followers who later would become witnesses. These are the Apostles and their witness to the things they saw, experienced, and were taught. All this being put down in written record for others, these personal records are in the Gospels. They were never meant to replace the torah, the prophets, the books of wisdom which the Gentile believers now call the Old Testament or covenant! For these early ones, their book was the Torah, the five books of law, the prophets, and the books of wisdom, the psalms, the proverbs. Their church was the synagogue and meetings in homes of believers, later on during persecution caves and dens of rocks for safety. They met on the traditional Shabbat, and also on everyday of the week in which they could. This was the day of fresh outpouring, the power of God, the demonstration of the Holy Spirit!
It was the time of evil, rebellion, religious fervor, idolatry, fornication, and man’s propensity to war and do wickedly. But in this, God sent his son, born of a woman, filled with the fullness of the Spirit of God! This was Gods Son, Y’SHUA Ha Massiach! He had come, fulfilling Gods promise to mankind! Yet for these, this Messiah would not spend eternity on earth building Zion. He would establish his purposes which were the Fathers purposes, leave the Spirit of God, Hope, and see the building of the ‘called out ones’. Who would carry his message to the end of the World and his coming back again to this earth and then he would fulfill and build up Zion on Earth.

This is the last days of the end, just before the coming of Messiah back.

This is the faith, the promise, the hope of mankind! This is the beginning and the foundational hope forming what we call the “Context of faith”.
He was everything to these Jewish people!
He was more than a spot of religion!
He was more than another brand to believe in!
He was more than what we would call denominational!

He was the True HOPE of all Israel, the Messiach, the coming promised one who would restore all things!

Basis of Faith, Meaning of Faith, Purpose of Faith!

There was a song I remember released in 1972. It achieved success in the USA and in the UK. It took two weeks to vault from number 20 to number 5 and then to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on November 4, 1972. It remained on the top of this chart for four weeks and spent four weeks atop the adult contemporary chart as well. It was written and recorded by a young black artist named Johnny Nash. It was a song that made it big and the first lines go like this:

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin for
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

I mention this song because of the need to truly ‘see clearly now’, that is in context. The land called America, its churches, and people all have been inundated with teachings on Faith. But we are looking at the context of faith, that is taken in whole, not in part, what are we really looking at?

(|)*******
When taken in context of the Faith chapter in Heb 11, we will look at chapter 10 that precedes the Faith chapter and then chapter 12 that follows the famed Faith chapter.

From these we will get a glimpse as to what the writer of Hebrews was really trying to tell those who read his letter.

We have seen time and time again the use of Faith in the context of needs, to get things, namely for many today that would be: healing, food, clothes, blessings, finances, wealth, cars, trucks, and many other kinds of things. We have also seen Faith used to obtain spiritual blessings, learn spiritual truths, and more!

Chapter 10 Hebrews-Context of Faith, Part 1

Heb 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Namely:
1. Understand that without Faith you cannot please God, period!
2. If do come to God in that manner, i.e. in Faith, this is how it works!
a. You must believe God is, i.e. he actually exists!
b. You must believe God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him!

This verse itself is a warning, a guide, and a promise.

It tell us that there is a God or else why would the verse be here in the first place.
It lets us know that this God, whom we cannot see, touch, feel, smell, i.e. unless we move forward in faith, is someone that in order to know Him and please HIM, must be approached by people who believe that he actually exists. That is, he is alive, and with this, cares, and with this, is the supreme creator and being anywhere.
It tells us that we must also believe he rewards those who do believe in Him and come to him. In scripture these rewards are known as promises to the believer.

It is through coming to Him in the first place, knowing as we approach and believing he exists that we learn to relate to Him. This relation or relationship is made possible to us today through Jesus Christ. It was through Him coming that we came to know this God personally, his mercy, his love, and who he is!

The whole issue of Faith, then begins with this God, whom the world did not know!
Romans 1:21  Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

It is also here that Israel failed to understand this God, Love this God, and saw his judgment on them. Yet they still hoped in a true Messiah, to restore the kingdom again to Israel!

The above scripture in Heb 11:6, ref., God, coming to Him, by faith, believing, is part and parcel of our covenant through Jesus Christ. Before that time, the Law, and the sacrifices being a shadow of things to come, still did not make it possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.

Hebrews outlines this in chapter 10: 1-4.

Heb 10:1
¶For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

Heb 10:2
For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

Heb 10:3
But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

Heb 10:4
For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

Heb 10:5
Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

Heb 10:6
In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

Heb 10:7
¶Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

D. The LORD God, even though there was the Law, with sacrifices, did not want sacrifices, offerings, and burnt offerings, and offerings for sin.

Heb 10:8
Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

Heb 10:9
Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

Heb 10:10
By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Heb 10:11
And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
Heb 10:12
But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

Heb 10:13
From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

Heb 10:14
For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Heb 10:15
Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

Heb 10:16
This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

Heb 10:17
And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

Heb 10:18
Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

It was Gods will to take away the first and establish the second one In Christ. Through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all.
-Sits at right hand of God
-Till his enemies be made his footstool
-By this one offering he has perfected forever them that are sanctified
-Holy Ghost is witness to this fact
-New covenant
-Laws in their hearts
-In their minds will I write them
-Their sins and iniquities will I remember no more
-Where there is this remission of sin, there is no more offering for sin

This is the ‘blood of the covenant’

Heb 9:25

Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;

Heb 9:26
For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Heb 9:27
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Heb 9:28
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

E. The Blood of the Covenant and Entering In to Holy of Holies

It is through this sacrifice and the ‘blood of the Covenant’, the Lamb of God sacrificed without the gate of the city to be sin for us. His blood, being spilled for us, accepted and approved of God, now becomes the permanent sacrifice for our sins, forever. This is through faith, by Gods grace that we have access to it. We can give up, walk in unbelief, become a child of disobedience or we can run the race, with patience and faith.

-We can now draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith
-We have been sanctified, through the power of God and presence of his Spirit, no more evil conscience and evil heart, and our bodies washed in the living water, the blood of the lamb.
-We now have a profession of that faith, that says, We believe in this God, he exists, he made it possible for us to be redeemed, forgiven, and we have a sure promise from him of salvation and a home in Mount Zion, the Heavenly Jerusalem,
-We are to exhort one another, gather with one another, more so as we see the day of his coming drawing nigh

Heb 10:19
¶Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

Heb 10:20
By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

Heb 10:21
And having an high priest over the house of God;

Heb 10:22
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

Heb 10:23
Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

Heb 10:24
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

Heb 10:25
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

-Warning: if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins
-You cannot just do what you want
-You have been bought with a price
-There remains a fearful judgment and a fiery indignation from the LORD God which shall devour the adversaries.
-A sorer punishment for those who has trodden under foot the Son of God and hath counted the ‘blood of the covenant’ an unholy thing, doing despite to the Spirit of Grace.
-This speaks to the Apostate Church who has rejected this warning and continues in sin and rebellion against God, thus becoming his enemy!
-The LORD shall judge his people
-It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God

Heb 10:26
For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

Heb 10:27
But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Heb 10:28
He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

Heb 10:29
Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Heb 10:30
For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

Heb 10:31
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

G. This Covenant Requires you to live by Faith and not draw back or quit!

-There is a place for you today to walk by Faith, in relationship to God, being accepted of him through the ‘blood of the covenant’.
-This does not mean you will not see trouble or turmoil
-This also does not mean you have the full promise of that which the forefathers in the days of Israel, the prophets had hoped in.
-This is a journey and the ‘promise’ of this is yet to be fulfilled when all the saints will be made perfect and in him in his kingdom, on this Earth.
-Therefore, we have confidence and a great recompense of reward if we faint not, quit not, or do not draw back.

Heb 10:32
But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;

Heb 10:33
Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.

Heb 10:34
For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

Heb 10:35
Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

Heb 10:36
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Heb 10:37
For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

Heb 10:38
Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

Heb 10:39
But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

-Therefore we see in Chapter ten of Hebrews the establishing of the second covenant and the replacing of the former.
-It is here we find the ‘entering into the Holy of Holies’ through Jesus Christ
-It is here that we through faith must walk
-It is here that we must have patience
-It is here that we must not give up
-It is here that we find out we must not sin willfully as the Apostate Church has done
-It is here that we are told that God has no pleasure in them who draw back
-It is here we fully understand that in order to please God we must do so in Faith.

Faith is outlined here as ‘believing he is when we come to him’ and that ‘he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him’.

The True Promise and the fulfillment of the Promises to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, to Israel, the Prophets, ect and to those in the days of Y’SHUA Ha Massiach was to see the kingdom restored.

This kingdom would be that place Where God would be with his ‘sons of Gods’, see John 1, They would be his sons and he would be their God. This would be the nations of them that are saved.

Basis of Faith: the basis, foundation, pedestal of our Faith [trust, confidence] is the LORD God

Meaning of Faith:
“To believe He is and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek HIM”

Purpose of Faith: The reason of our Faith[trust, confidence] in God, the determination or objective, is to seek Him, believing that he actually exists and as we do seek him diligently [careful, conscientiously, and taking delight in doing so] we find out he is a rewarder to those who do this! We therefore have purpose to know this God and to receive of his hand his gift to us.

This starts in the ‘blood of the covenant’ and ends in the kingdom resurrection of the ‘sons and daughters of God’ in the Heavenly Jerusalem, Mount Zion.

Hebrews 11, then is a chapter that lines up the examples for the reader of how people overcame by faith and the faithfulness of God to meet them in their trials and help them to overcome. Then Finally in all this, they overcome, do not quit and receive of the promise which waited in patience for the Messiach Kingdom of God and the ‘blood of the covenant’, that they with us, should not be made perfect.

This is the context of faith, Yet, there is another part of this!

Faith is far more deeper than mere material goods, it goes beyond to that hope in Christ, when One day all this will be past and we will be in that Heavenly Jerusalem, the Heavenly city.

We will be permanently, completely, and forever eternally forgiven, whole, healed, and saved!

This is the Promise of God! This is what we look for! This is what we work towards!
