Faith is not about getting, it is not about miracles, survival, and does not take any magical mandates, formulas, or modern thinking on the matter.
Faith is as old as time itself!
Faith began before time, with God!
Faith is about Knowing the LORD, trusting in him, he who has called us, obeying him, going out, trusting him, and believing that he is faithful who will do as He says!
Faith also will see the fulfillment of the promises of God, for he is faithful. Listen as we discuss 28 descriptions and promises in Revelation regarding these promises of God!
Hebrews 11:1 ¶Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
What is the substance of things hope for!
What is the Evidence of things not seen!
Who are the Elders that obtained a good report!
This is a partial list of those Elders who obtained a good report!
A. Enoch:
What was the substance of things Enoch hoped for!
In simple terms and because of the Word and what it says, that he pleased God, I believed Enoch wanted one thing, to know God, please God. Enoch understood what faith really was!
What is the Evidence of things not seen!
His testimony is the hallmark for really trusting, having faith, and knowing God! Why?
Simple he “Walked with God”! What better way to know God than to walk with God and continue to do so and never come back. The company is too good, the conversation is to good, and the pleasing of God is forever!
How did he walk with God! We know very little about Enoch except that scripture says the phrase “Enoch walked with God” twice in three verses.
We also know these things about Enoch:
1. “He Pleased God”
2. “He did not see death”
3. “God took him”
4. It only takes four verses to illustrate Enoch’s life of “walking with God”
Genesis 5:21 ¶And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:
22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:
24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
B. Noah:
What was the substance of things Noah hoped for!
Noah found grace in God Eyes
chen (???, 2580), “favor; grace.” The root with the meaning “to favor someone”
Noah was a ‘Just’ Man
tsaddiq (???????, 6662), “righteous; just.” This adjectival form occurs 206 times in biblical Hebrew. In Old Aramaic the adjective signifies “loyalty” of a king or high priest to his personal god, often represented by a gift to the god
Noah was perfect in his generations
tamim (???????, 8549), “perfect; blameless; sincerity; entire; whole; complete; full.”
This word describes his entire relationship to God, noah was a righteous and just man, wo was blameless in his entire relationship to God, thus Noah walked with God! The key to this as well is found in Chapter 7 verse one where the LORD says to ‘Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation!
Thus Noah was blameless, perfect in his righteous walk before God as was his whole house, his generations!
dor (?????, 1755), “generation.” The concrete meaning of “generation” is the “period during which people live”: “And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation
Noah walked with God
halak (??????, 1980), “to go, walk, behave.” People “walk with God” (Gen. 5:22), and they live in His presence, and “walk before” Him (Gen. 17:1), in the sense of living responsibly before Him.
Genesis 6:8 ¶But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
Genesis 7:1 ¶And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
What is the Evidence of things not seen!
Noah had to obey, follow Gods commands regarding the ark, enter in, and then the LORD shut the door!
Noah lived in the presence of the LORD, even in the midst of wickedness. He walked before the LORD blameless in his righteousness, and did those things that was pleasing in Gods sight!
Noah thus found Gods ‘favor’ and in the midst of the wickedness, God delivered him and his generations, his family, children, ect.
By faith Noah acted upon Gods divine warning of coming judgment, believed what God had said, and obeyed the LORD to the saving of the his house, animals, and by his righteous act of building and accepting it by faith, he condemned the world for their unrighteous ways!
Genesis 6:22 ¶Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
Genesis 7:5 ¶And Noah did according unto all that the LORD commanded him.
Thus Noah called a ‘preacher of righteousness’ was saved!
2 Peter 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
God personally shut the door to the ark!
Genesis 7:13 ¶In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;
14 They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort.
15 And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.
16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
Genesis 6
13 ¶And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.
15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.
17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
22 ¶Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
C. Abraham:
What was the substance of things Abraham hoped for!
He looked, waited, for the city which has foundations whose builder and maker is God!
What is the Evidence of things not seen!
By faith Abraham obeyed God, going out from his home country, not knowing where he was going!
1. He dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country.
2. He dwelt in tents with his family.
Why did he do this:
3. Again, He really believed what God had said! He looked, waited, for the city which has foundations whose builder and maker is God!
4. Sarah believed God was faithful who promised her a child, so she received strength to conceive in old age.
5. Abraham as well believed, even in old age, and received the heir of the promise, for out of Abraham came forth a multitude, born unto him, heirs, not by flesh, but through faith unto righteousness.
6. By faith Abraham facing a test to sacrifice his only son, the heir, Issac, laying all on the line, including his son, believed God and reckoned God able to raise him up even from the dead!
Hebrews 11:8
By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
Hebrews 11:9
By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
Hebrews 11:10
For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Hebrews 11:11
Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
Hebrews 11:12
Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
Hebrews 11:19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure..
D. Moses:
What was the substance of things Moses hoped for!
By Faith chose affliction rather than pleasure and sin, choosing reproach of Christ rather than treasure in Pharoah’s house, in Egypt!
What is the Evidence of things not seen!
By Faith went into the wilderness for forty years after leaving Egypt for the first time to be taught of God and prepare. By Faith went back into Egypt to fulfill his call of God. By Faith challenged Pharoah, convinced his people, and brought the deliverance of God
By faith he kept as did the people, the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, through Gods Divine warning and commandments to be delivered from Gods wrath lest he who destroyed the first born should touch them.
By Faith went out of Egypt and passed thorugh red sea as dry land, the thing which the Egpytians tried to do and were drowned.
They looked for the promised land.
Hebrews 11:23
By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.
Hebrews 11:24
By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;
Hebrews 11:25
Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
Hebrews 11:26
Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
Hebrews 11:27
By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
Hebrews 11:28
Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

Hebrews 11:29

Faith in Troubled Times Today!
In Hebrews chapter 11: 30-37 We find the following!
All of these the World was not worthy!
In Faith many miracles occured!
In Faith many were tortured not accepting deliverance, obtaining a better resurrection!
In Faith others saw mockings, scourging, chains, and imprisionment!
In Faith others were stoned, sawn asunder, tempted, and slain with the sword!
In Faith others wandered in sheepskins, goatskins, destitute, afflicted, and tormented!>
In Faith others wandered in deserts, mountains, caves, and in dens!
Hebrews 11:38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
All of these the World was not worthy!
Although all of these had substantial things in their lives to hope for! Although they all had needs! Although they all looked to the LORD! Although they lived among wicked times and wickedness They all had faith. For these hoped for the fulfillment of the Promises of God, his kingdom, and his righteousness. They hoped in a promise one to come, which would bring in Gods kingdom!
Yet in the midst of all these things, all these people, who are mentioned in the hall of faith in Heb 11 did the following!
They all died in faith!
They did not receive the promises!
They saw them afar off!
They were persuaded of them!
They embraced them!
They then confessed that in this world they were strangers and pilgrims!
They all died in faith, with a good report!
They again did not receive the promise!
They waited for God who had provided some better thing, i.e. that they without us, should not be made perfect!
Hebrews 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Hebrews 11:39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
The PROMISE:
Below are the promises of God to his people regarding a new heaven, a new earth, a new holy city, Jerusalem, and the Tabernacle of God with Men. All former things will pass away, This is the reward to those who overcome and are faithful to the end!
We will simply “INHERIT ALL THINGS”
The “LORD GOD will BE OUR GOD”
“WE SHALL BE HIS SON”
The PROMISE to those who overcome:
1. New Heaven, new earth, no more sea!
Revelation 21:1
¶And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2. The HOLY City, new Jerusalem, adorned, prepared as a bride for her husband!
Revelation 21:2
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3. Tabernacle of God with men, to dwell with them, they will be his people, God will be with them, and be their God!
Revelation 21:3
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4. God will wipe away all tears, no more death, sorrow, crying, pain, former things passed away!
Revelation 21:4
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5. The Words are true and faithful: “Behold, I make all things new”
Revelation 21:5
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
6. Alpha, Omega will give unto all that is athirst of the ‘fountain of the water of life freely’
Revelation 21:6
And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
7. Those who overcome shall inherit all things; I will be his God, he shall be my son!
Revelation 21:7
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
8. The fearful, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, whoremongers, socerers, idolators, liars, will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, the ‘second death’!
Revelation 21:8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
The Description of the NEW City!
9. The Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple in it.
Revelation 21:22
And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
10. There is no sun, moon, the glory of God and the Lamb lighten it.
Revelation 21:23
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
11. The nations who are saved will walk in the light of it, the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it!
Revelation 21:24
And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
12. Gates will not be shut, there will be no night.
Revelation 21:25
And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
13. The glory and honour of the nations into it.
Revelation 21:26
And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
14. Nothing that defiles will enter, nothing that works abomination, or makes a life, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life will enter into it!
Revelation 21:27
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
15. The pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, coming from throne of God and of the Lamb!
Revelation 22:1
¶And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
16. The tree of life, twelve manner of fruits, bearing every month fruith, the leaves of tree were for healing of the nations!
Revelation 22:2
In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
17. No more curse, the throne of God and of the Lambe will be in it, his servants shall serve him!
Revelation 22:3
And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
18. They shall see his face, his name shall be in their foreheads!
Revelation 22:4
And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
19. No night, no candle or light of the sun needed, the LORD God gives them light, he shall reign for ever and ever!
Revelation 22:5
And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
The Final Words of Warning!
20. These words are faithful and true, this revelation is from the Lord God of the Holy prophets who sent his angel to show you the things that must come to pass shortly.
Revelation 22:6
¶And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
21. Blessed are thos who keep the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
Revelation 22:7
Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
22. Worship God, do not seal the things of the prophecy of this book, time is at hand!
Revelation 22:8
And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.
Revelation 22:9
Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
Revelation 22:10
And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
25. Let the unjust one be unjust still, let the filthy one be filthy still, let him that is righteous be righteous still, let him that is holy, be holy still!
Revelation 22:11
He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
26. I come quickly, my reward is with me, giving to everyone according to his works.
Revelation 22:12
And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
27. The Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end, first and last has spoken.
Revelation 22:13
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
28. Blessed are those who do his commandments, they will have right to the tree of life and enter in through the gates into the city.
Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
The Admonition:
Because of all these examples in the hall of faith, let us therefore:
1. Understand we have a great cloud of witnesses to our race, both on earth and in heaven!
2. Let us lay aside every weight!
3. Let us lay aside any sin that besets us!
4. Let us run this race that is set before us with patience!
5. Let us then, look to Jesus Christ who:
a. Is the Author and finisher of our faith
b. For the joy that was set before him
-endured the cross
-despised the shame
-sat down at the right hand of the throne of God
c. He is our example!
Hebrews 12:1 ¶Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
